It is vital for every Christian who truly desires to understand the nature of God to learn to identify the opinions and theories of men and be able to differentiate them from the truth of Scripture. As the apostle Paul admonished, we must be “casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God...” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
The Godhead: A Mystery Revealed
Not only is it possible to understand the Godhead, the pursuit of this knowledge is critical to discipleship. In fact, the paramount question of the New Testament concerns the identity of the Lord Jesus Christ, as the following verses illustrate:
“Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?. . .But whom say ye that I am?” (Matthew 16:13, 15).
“All the city was moved, saying, Who is this ?” (Matthew 21:10).
“What think ye of Christ?” (Matthew 22:42).
“What sagest thou of him?” (John 9:17).
The import of these questions cannot be ignored.
