When you think of stewardship, what comes to mind?
Maybe fundraising or a capital campaign. Possibly taking care of the environment. Or, maybe you think it's just a stale old word you've seen in history books. Maybe, if you're being honest, you're not really sure what it means.
The reality is that many people today, including lots of Christians, don't understand the true meaning of stewardship. And that's a tragedy. Why? Because stewardship is our ultimate calling as Christ followers.
It's the first assignment God gave the human race in Genesis 1:28. That's when God told Adam and Eve to "[r]ule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
Stewardship is managing God's blessings God's ways for God's glory. The Bible tells us in Psalm 24:1 that He owns it all: "The earth belongs to the Lord, and its fullness ... ".
And if He's the owner, that means we're not. Instead, we're His stewards—His managers. God commands us to be stewards over everything He blesses us with. Everything. That means our time, talents, treasure, relationships, jobs and, yes, stuff. It's all God's, and He trusts us with it.

Pastor of Antioch Central Congregation
Antioch, The Apostolic Church
We live in a time when eloquent words are plentiful and where every point of public communication professes to be the best source for what’s really true and most important. From the partisan news desk to the biased political podium to the permissive church pulpit, we are bombarded with an endless assortment of ideological perspectives on every imaginable subject. Yet, despite this inescapable volume of human effort, in no way are people’s lives made better by what they hear, see, and are told to do.
In contrast to man’s efforts, the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:4 reminds the local church at Corinth of how God does things: “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.” God’s ways begin far beyond where man’s abilities end.
At Antioch Central, we are not interested in impressing or entertaining you with new and better “enticing words of man’s wisdom.” Instead, it is our desire to introduce you to the “demonstration of the Spirit” and invite you to experience the awesome presence and power of God. The Antioch congregation includes people from distinct backgrounds and many different walks of life. We are a culturally, educationally, and economically diverse group of people drawn together by a life-changing encounter with the Spirit of God.
We want you to experience what we have experienced: The amazing power of God that will transform your soul and lead you into an intimate, rewarding relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Whether at our main campus in Arnold or at our other locations throughout the area, we invite you to come and worship with us and witness that what is said here really is true. God has something great in store for you, and all you have to do is receive it!
